Verification Process
- Identify material claims. Facts that would change a reader’s understanding if wrong are prioritised.
- Trace to source. Each material claim is matched to the most authoritative available source.
- Attribute where unverified. Claims that cannot be independently confirmed are attributed to their originator.
- Check figures and dates. Numbers, dates and units are checked against the source and presented with context.
- Review before publication. Content is reviewed against the standards in our Editorial Policy.
Source Hierarchy
We favour primary and official sources over secondary summaries. Our evidence standards are set out in Methodology.
Statements by Interested Parties
When information comes from an operator, regulator, company or other interested party, it is identified as their statement. We do not adopt promotional claims as our own.
Disputed and Uncertain Information
Where credible sources disagree, or information is incomplete, we describe the disagreement and avoid presenting an unresolved interpretation as settled fact.
Re-verification
Time-sensitive pages are reviewed periodically. Where material facts change, content is updated and, where appropriate, the change is noted.
