Player Protection in Denmark: ROFUS and the Online Casino Order

A national self-exclusion register checked at every login, mandatory deposit limits, strong identity checks and capped promotions

Last verified: 2026-10-05

Danish licensed operators must check the ROFUS self-exclusion register at registration and at every login, set deposit limits before play, monitor risk, use a national electronic ID and keep promotions within a DKK 1,000 cap and ten-times wagering limit.

Player protection in Denmark: ROFUS, StopSpillet and the online-casino order

Overview

Player protection in Danish online gambling is built on a national self-exclusion register, ROFUS, run by the Danish Gambling Authority. A player can exclude themselves for 24 hours, one, three or six months, or permanently, and licensed operators must check the register when a player registers and at every login, refuse access to anyone listed, close the accounts of anyone finally excluded, and avoid sending marketing to registered players. At the end of 2025 68,026 Danes were registered, about 12,000 more than a year earlier, and 65% of those registered on 1 January 2026 had excluded themselves permanently.

The order on online casino, in force since 1 July 2025, adds account-level rules: a deposit limit set before play (raises take effect after at least 24 hours), a self-exclusion function at the operator, an obligation to monitor player behaviour and act on risk, mandatory responsible-gambling information and a visible clock, strong identity checks with a national electronic ID, and caps on promotions (a DKK 1,000 ceiling, a ten-times wagering limit and no wagering on promotional winnings). The Authority also runs StopSpillet, a helpline that received 727 inquiries in 2025; online casino was the most common problem game among players who called.
